The Peace Referendum in Colombia was a historic event. The initiative sought to end a period of over 50 years of strife and civil war. Some historians set it at over 60 years because they bring the period known as La Violencia, which lasted a decade before the 50 years of internal challenges in the Country.
The Referendum, aimed at giving the people of the Country the right to make the decision on the peace process. They simply had to vote ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. The President sought to make peace both with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the National Liberation Army (ELN), but the latter did not manage to liberate all the hostages they held before the Referendum.
The former President, Mr Juan Manuel Santos, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the initiative.
Here are some of my images from the Referendum.
