La Candelaria – Taking you back over 480 Years

La Candelaria is to Bogotá what the Old Town is to most European cities. This area in the Andean capital city is where the Spanish Conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada established Bogotá in August 1538. It is believed that the first garrison was set up in what is today El Plaza del Chorro de Quevedo. La Candelaria is a delightful part of the city to stroll through. It is a ‘must-see’ area for every tourist who visits the Capital. The narrow, often cobblestoned streets take you back to the way the city was over 480 years ago, when people travelled on horseback or horse-drawn carriages. This part of Bogotá has an abundance of Spanish colonial architecture; many buildings are well preserved and date back several centuries. Let me show you La Candelaria, as I see it.
