Rio de Janeiro – The 30 metres tall statue of Christ the Redeemer atop the Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, South America. Designed by local Engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, and sculpted by Polish French Sculptor, Paul Landowski, the statue was constructed between 1922 and 1931; it is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. It was designed in the form of the Christian Cross and overlooks the city of Rio de Janeiro. Black and White photo.
