Two traditional bronze oil lamps from State of Tamil Nadu in South India. Such lamps were used both in homes and temples before the advent of Electricity. Even today the lamps are used in many ceremonies to initiate proceedings. The lighting of the lamp is a symbolic gesture to indicate the commencement of the ceremony.
