Vatican City, Vatican City State – External view of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican City, seen at the centre of the photo. It is towards this roof that the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square look to, for the first signs of a newly elected pope by the Conclave of the College of Cardinals: black smoke denotes that the ballot was inconclusive, white smoke indicates they have a new Pope. The Sistine Chapel is the Pope’s private chapel. To the left is a section of St. Peter’s Basilica. To the right is a section of the Vatican Museum and Palace.
